Recently we had the opportunity to complete our first Stage 3 (270hp) powerup package we now do for the Toyota Hilux sporting the 1kd engine.

Impressed? Yes
Heaps of power? Yes
Reliable? Yes

How good! The package consists of a custom 44mm direct bolt on turbocharger without the VNT (aka variable vane turbo), this makes it a waste-gated turbo and heaps more reliable.

We fully expected that with a bigger turbo we were going to see some low end response lost. Did we? Nope, if anything it equal to or better then the standard VNT turbo!

At 150000kms the injectors that were in the vehicle still seemed to function correctly but we elected to swap them out for some new ones anyway as well as screwing a set of +30% flow increasing tips to the ends. We can do a simple calculation to see how this translates into more power. It goes as follows: More boost + more fuel = more power.

BUT

Don’t confuse the above equation to assume that this means more fuel usage in general. During normal daily driving scenarios fuel economy is generally improved on. I mean, darling, we need this setup to save fuel *wink* *wink*

Its all well and good to have all of this new found power making hardparts, but unless you can make the things that spray fuel and the thing that compresses air and shoots it into the engine work in harmony, the setup will be less then impressive, introducing ECU=SHOP and their range of diesel specific ECU’s, now these aren’t some gadget you can find in a cereal box, these are the real deal, highly tunable performance ECU’s. They make them for a range of aussie diesels and if you haven’t heard of them, you will probably start to see Facebook randomly making them pop up like they have been watching you…

Make sure you have a look at the video above where we go into detail.
